Milt Kahl day

Milt kahl is my favorite animator and character designer of all time. He was responsible for designing at least 80% of the Disney characters since Pinocchio and he created the Disney style we love today. We traditional animators try really hard to get a little bit of the flair that he had but we usually fail as no one can do what he was able to. He should be studied by every serious student of animation and professional.
I will post a Milt Kahl drawing every week and will call it Milt kahl day.
Let's start with Medusa, from The Rescuers.

  2. Great idea making a Milt day, Medusa in particular is my favorite character talking about acting, what he did with her (and many other characters) was outstanding.
Are you in SP right now? Do you plan to teach character design in the future?
Keep rocking Sandro, looking foward to seeing more and more characters from you!
    Abraço!

  6. Great idea! Medusa has certainly been a favourite of mine since I first saw the movie as a kid. What Milt did with her character was amazing, not to mention hilarious!

  8. Definitely! Milt Kahl is a huge influence on me too! My favorite animator along with John Lounsbury.

By the way, Sandro, your work is absolutely brilliant! I can't believe you started at fifteen years of age, you genius! :) I have a blog, however, most of my updates are relegated to my Deviant Art account at http://richardjgaines.blogspot.com. I was wondering if you could provide an iota of input if you have the time.

    All the best!

  9. Just found your blog through Shane Lewis' one. A great blog it is too! I'll definitely be following from now on. It's nice to hear a current Disney animator admiring animators of the past too. We all have someone to look up to huh :)

  10. Great Idea ! (Milt Kahl Day). By the way, I recently posted a pencil test of a Milt scene from "The Rescuer's" which I had xerox copies of . ( I had seen a previous version posted which was missing some of the drawings, so I decided to post a version with all the drawings included) Here is the link to view the scene:
